When the market trades above the pivot point in the following period, it is typically considered a bullish sentiment, while trading below the pivot point is seen as bearish.

In addition to the pivot point, traders often calculate additional levels of support and resistance. These levels are derived by adding or subtracting price differentials based on previous trading ranges of the market.

A pivot point, along with the associated support and resistance levels, often act as turning points for price movement direction in a market. In an upward-trending market, the pivot point and resistance levels may serve as a price ceiling beyond which the uptrend is no longer sustainable, potentially leading to a reversal. In a declining market, the pivot point and support levels may act as a price floor or a resistance to further decline.

Pivot points have gained popularity in the foreign exchange (FX) market since many currency pairs tend to fluctuate between these levels. Range-bound traders will enter buy orders near identified support levels and sell orders near upper resistance levels. Pivot points also help trend and breakout traders identify key levels that need to be breached for a move to be considered a breakout.
